Massachusetts Servers Make Excellent Gratuity Says Study

This study shows which states tip their servers the best

Working at a restaurant, bar, or diner is almost a rite of passage in the US. The service industry creates jobs and opportunities for people who have different levels of experience; service jobs employ people who may not have the experience needed for a corporate or office job.

This rite of passage, working as a server, helps so many young adults build their skill set and add to their resume. But pay as a service worker in the United States isn’t necessarily the same in every state. It’s definitely not the same in every city, either.

Naturally, there are places where people make more money working service jobs. For instance, cities where tourism is common or there are a bunch of landmarks to visit may be great locations to work as a server. However, the issue with working as a server is that tipping and associated gratuity is subjective and one person’s preference may not match the next patron’s preferences which is to say that servers can be jipped when it comes to gratuity.

If you’re going to work a service job, New England is one of the best places to do so. Why? The average gratuity you might be able to make is just below 20%. In the world of serving, that’s a gold star.
