MBTA: $10 Weekend Commuter Rail Deal Is Back
Passenger feedback was "enthusiastic," and there was a 5 percent increase in revenue for the MBTA this summer compared with 2017.

BOSTON, MA — The MBTA is bringing back its $10 weekend fare deal on the commuter rail, after the program ended last month.
Piloted during last summer, the promotional fares had the aim of increasing Commuter Rail ridership and revenue on the weekends when trains have additional capacity. During the six-month period the fares were available, and despite construction, 180,000 tickets were sold, which was a 4.6 percent increase in weekend revenues compared to the same time period in 2017.
“Resuming this pilot allows our customers to continue taking advantage of Commuter Rail as a travel option on weekends, while we study the potential for making this program permanent,” new MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said in a statement.

The special $10 all-weekend fare will be available on the mTicket app, onboard trains and at ticket windows at North, South, and Back Bay stations. The special weekend fare allows adults to travel with two children under the age of 12 at no additional cost.
Officials also said passenger feedback was "enthusiastic."
