MBTA To Commuters: Add 20 Minutes This Week

Expect some delays as the MBTA tries to work through bitter cold.

Dreading that freezing cold MBTA ride to work this week? We've got some more bad news for you.

The MBTA is not-so-surprisingly warning commuters to add 20 minutes to their commute time this morning and going forward this week, thanks to the prolonged stretch of sub-zero wind chills and single-digit temperatures.

A 20-minute delay isn't so bad when put up against some of the larger structural issues the MBTA has suffered through the past few winters. Now the agency needs to hope its fleet of buses and trains hold up.

The Hingham commuter ferry to Boston is suspended indefinitely due to ice damage to the dock, the MBTA said Monday night.

Tuesday's temperatures will again be around 10 degrees with sub-zero wind chill factors. Temperatures might get all the way up to 30 degrees Wednesday, but a potentially wicked snowstorm is on tap after that, followed by more arctic air.
