'Open Newbury Street' Will Close Road To Cars Over 6 Weekends
Boston's main shopping strip will become a pedestrian-only walkway during the waning days of summer.

BOSTON, MA — Closing Newbury Street will actually make it more open.
That's the message from the city of Boston, which will shut down the famed shopping strip to vehicles on six Sundays in August and September. During the closures, eight blocks will be free to stroll along, with outdoor vendors along the way.
The six 2022 Newbury Street closures mark an expansion of the "Open Newbury" program. Boston first closed the street to traffic in 2016, and continued the closures on three weekends each in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
