RMV Suspends 800+ More Driver's Licenses As Review Lumbers On

More than 2,400 licenses have now been suspended since a review of potential missed violations for out-of-state offenses began.

The Registry of Motor Vehicles continues to clean up in the wake of the June crash that killed seven people, releasing a report Thursday confirming it suspended the licenses of more than 800 drivers.

The RMV, which has come under fire after a West Springfield man they said shouldn't have been allowed to drive was charged with killing seven motorcyclists on a New Hampshire highway, said in an interim report it has suspended the licenses of 869 drivers. That brings the total amount of suspended licenses to more than 2,400 since a review of potential missed violations that involves checking the records of all 5.2 million drivers in Massachusetts.

The RMV went years without suspending licenses for out-of-state violations, a shortfall that was highlighted after authorities said Volodymyr Zhukovskyy crashed into a group of bikers in Randolph, N.H., in June. Zhukovskyy was arrested in Connecticut the month before for driving under the influence; he refused a breath test, which was supposed to result in an automatic suspension of his commercial driver's license.
