BOSTON, MA — Some state workers who lost jobs after refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19 have been offered their jobs back, according to multiple reports.

A spokesperson for Gov. Charlie Baker told the Boston Globe that a "small number" of executive branch workers were offered jobs back recently. CBS Boston reported that some former MassDOT workers have received letters offering them their old jobs back.

In both cases, the people who are receiving the offers had previously refused vaccines due to religious beliefs, according to the reports.

"There's been a process here for dealing with those who sought exemptions and there are a small number of people who based on continued reviews of those exemption requests we believe we have solutions for," Baker said during a news conference Tuesday.

The Globe has previously reported that about 1,000 state workers lost their jobs over vaccine mandates, including 12 state police officers. About 42,000 people work in executive branch departments, which includes MassDOT, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, state police and the state Department of Revenue.
