Tsunami Hits Boston In Next Godzilla Movie

At least some of the movie's story, staring 'Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown, takes place in Boston.

BOSTON, MA — Boston we hardly knew ye: The trailer for next summer's "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" features Boston being destroyed by a tsunami (oddly, as Adam Gaffin points out, apparently coming from Cambridge).

"Our world is changing. The mass extinction we feared has already begun. And we are the cause. We are the infection," begins the trailer. But there's hope! The titans (aka Godzilla) can possibly save the earth, but no word on whether that includes Boston.

Unless, you consider what the film's director, Michael Dougherty, had to say about it:

"The Green Monster will soon have company," he said in an email to Patch.

At least some of the movie's story, staring "Stranger Things" Millie Bobby Brown, takes place in Boston. If you look closely in the background of the dark trailer, you can just spot the Citco sign, the Pru, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and a bit more of the Boston skyline as a horrible tsunami approaches.

Kyle Chandler of "The Wolf of Wall Street," Charles Dance from "Game of Thrones," and Zhang Ziyi of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," also star in the Warner Bros. film.

Filming took place mainly in Atlanta, Georgia, according to a press release last year. But Warner Brother spokespeople told Patch some 2nd unit shooting did happen in Boston.

But that's all they would say... for now.
