This spring, Voices of Hope will return to the inaugural musical they produced at the North Shore Music Theatre: “Jesus Christ Superstar" in 2013.

“Jesus Christ Superstar,” the first musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for professional staging, has captivated audiences for over five decades. This production, loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, chronicles the final week of Jesus Christ's life, offering a compelling theatrical experience characterized by powerful music and timeless themes of love, loyalty, power, and betrayal. The well-known 1970s rock score includes iconic numbers such as “Superstar,” “I Don't Know How to Love Him,” and “Gethsemane.”

Founder and President Greg Chastain established this philanthropic group after the loss of his mother to pancreatic cancer, viewing it as a means of giving back to the community. “What began as a one-time production has evolved significantly,” he remarked, reflecting on the growth of the organization.

Last year, the nonprofit organization produced two sold-out performances of “Hello Dolly” at the North Shore Music Theatre. The donations made by Voices of Hope over the years have paralleled substantial advancements in medical research that have enhanced the lives of many. “Since our collaboration with Mass General commenced, they have successfully brought 26 approved therapeutic drugs to market,” Chastain stated. “Our contributions have played a significant role in that process.”

Additionally, this all-volunteer organization funds a rideshare program to assist individuals traveling for treatment and provides nursing scholarships at the hospital. Beyond its musical productions, galas, concerts, and performances of National Anthems, Voices of Hope administers a summer youth program lasting five weeks, involving approximately 25 participants. This program teaches students about theatrical performance, essential life skills, and the principles of philanthropy.
