2 Charged With Renting Out Randolph Houses They Don't Own

Police said the suspects got properties by tricking people into signing over distressed property deeds for $1, saying they'd make repairs.

RANDOLPH, MA — A man and a woman were arrested after police said they broke into foreclosed houses and rented them out to tenants.

Ricard Bernard, 47, of Milton, and Katya Magni, 31, of Brockton, were charged Wednesday after Police Chief William Pace said the two suspects rented the houses to unsuspecting tenants.

Police said the suspects tricked people into signing over distressed property deeds for $1, under the false promise that Bernard would make repairs and remove the homes from foreclosure listings. The properties would then be sold, and Bernard collected any profit after satisfying the bank lien.
