25 More Braintree Coronavirus Deaths Discovered
Another 25 coronavirus deaths were added to the Braintree report after health officials discovered a discrepancy in the state's reporting.

BRAINTREE, MA — Town officials reported another 25 deaths from the coronavirus in an eight-week span that were initially not included in the town's totals.
Mayor Charles Kokoros said the deaths took place between May 1 and Tuesday. As of Wednesday, 115 Braintree residents have died after contracting COVID-19. The town has 887 confirmed cases, though Braintree has only had one new case in the last six days.
"Due to an unintentional oversight in the state’s reporting system, the town was not notified of these deaths when they occurred," Kokoros said in a statement.

Kokoros told the Patriot Ledger Jean McGinty, the town's public health nurse noticed the discrepancy and reported it to state health officials. Most of the deaths in Braintree have come from nursing homes, but when someone dies at home or in the hospital, there's a little more work involved to get the numbers, according to Kokoros.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there are 107,611 coronavirus cases in Massachusetts. Almost 8,000 people have died.
