3 Braintree Mayor Candidates Take Out Nomination Papers

Three of the four candidates, who announced they are running to be Braintree's next mayor have taken out nomination papers.

BRAINTREE, MA — Nomination papers for mayor became available on Monday, and three of the four announced candidates wasted no time and picked them up on day one. Town Clerk James Casey said School committee Chair Lisa Fiske Heger, At-Large Town Councilor Sean Powers, and Light Commissioner Thomas Reynolds all took out nomination papers, in hopes of becoming Braintree's second ever mayor. Mayor Joseph Sullivan in April, announced he's not seeking re-election, leaving the seat up for grabs.

Braintree requires mayoral candidates to get 150 residents to sign their nomination papers. At least 25 of those signatures must come from each of the town's six districts. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on July 25 to pick up their nomination papers and until 5 p.m., July 30 to return them to the town clerk's office.

If three or more candidates qualify for the ballot, Braintree will hold a preliminary election on Sept. 17 and narrow the field down to two candidates before the town election on Nov. 5.
