BRAINTREE, MA — Police confiscated two guns and a large-capacity ammunition magazine after a vehicle stop early Sunday morning led to a crash and a foot pursuit on Wood Road.
Braintree officers responded around 2 a.m. to a report of suspicious activity by a group of people in the parking lot of the Sonesta Simply Suites hotel, 235 Wood Road, a statement said late Sunday.
Soon after police arrived at the scene, off Exit 6 of Interstate 93, a red sedan sped through the parking lot and onto Wood Road, headed west.
Police stopped the car and ordered the six occupants, three males and three females, to exit. But the driver sped off again, plowing over a traffic island and causing "significant" damage that disabled the vehicle, police said.
The six occupants then got out and tried to escape on foot.
One male and one female were arrested and charged with firearms-related offenses, while the other two female occupants were released.
Police said the driver has been identified and an arrest warrant is being sought. One male occupant remains unidentified.
Details including names and ages of the individuals, charges involved, and the type of firearms found had not been disclosed Sunday evening.
Braintree officers were assisted by a Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit and the Quincy, Randolph and Weymouth police departments.
