Barnes & Noble Closing In Braintree

The retailer is looking to open another Barnes & Noble store in the Braintree area.

BRAINTREE, MA — Two years after avoiding closure, the Barnes & Noble store in Braintree is shutting down.

"We confirm that we are closing our bookstore in Braintree, MA, as the landlord has chosen to redevelop the space for another tenant," a Barnes & Noble spokesperson said in a statement Monday. "We have truly enjoyed serving our customers from this location for the past 28 years and appreciate their loyalty and support."

The Granite Street store, which has been open for 28 years, averted closure in 2020 despite the lease disagreement.

A Barnes & Noble spokesperson said the retailer may open another store in the area.

"We are to open a new bookstore in close proximity and will announce the location shortly," a company statement read. "All booksellers at Braintree have been offered positions in other Barnes & Noble stores and look forward to welcoming you back to their new bookstore in due course."

It wasn't made immediately clear when the Granite Street store will close.
