Barnstable Schools Cancel April Vacation
With April vacation canceled, the Barnstable school year will end June 18 if classes resume after the new coronavirus crisis.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable Public School officials have canceled April Vacation and will continue remote learning through next week.
If classes resume after the new coronavirus pandemic, the district now can have June 18 as the last day of school while still being in accordance with state law that requires 180-day school years. As it stands, schools in Massachusetts are scheduled to re-open May 4.
The School Committee voted for the cancellation Wednesday after reviewing a phone survey of more than 1,600 households and 452 staff members. According to Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown, more than 75 percent of parents and faculty preferred continuing social distance learning Tuesday through Friday.
