Bites Nearby: Olympian Diner

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, just like Mom used to make.

In the mood for some good, old-fashioned home cooking? If so, head on down to the Olympian Diner in South Braintree Square. Open seven days a week, the Margetis family have been serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the past 30 years.

Originally located across the street in what is now , the Olympian was housed in the more traditional dining-car style. The Diner re-opened quite a few years back in a brand new space. They have reserved the counter for quick meals but now also feature plenty of comfy booths and tables.

Breakfast, served daily from 6 a.m., offers the standard fare of eggs, homefries, bacon, ham, or sausage, and a side of toast starting at just $2.25. Sides include corned beef hash, Linguisa, and Greek sausage for an additional $3.65. Other breakfast items include gigantic pancakes, creamy Eggs Benedict, and fluffy omelets. If you’re looking for more healthy offerings, you’ll also find homemade Oatmeal. Grapefruit and fruit cups are on the menu too.

Lunch is served seven days a week, and the menu contains a number of sandwiches from which to choose. Offerings range from the good ol Grilled Cheese, BLT, and Turkey Club to burgers, roast beef, and veal parm subs. Fresh salads and cold plates round out the menu. If you haven’t yet tried the Shish-KeBob Sandwiches, do so, immediately. The homemade Greek Navy dressing is delicious and the Chicken, Beef or Lamb is always perfectly grilled.

Dinner is served Monday through Friday and comfort foods abound. Meatloaf, American Chop Suey, Split Pea Soup, Salsbury Steak, and Hot Open-Faced Turkey Sandwiches will warm you up and stick to your bones. If you’ve got a hankering for Liver and Onions you’ll find that too. Seafood also makes up a large portion of the dinner menu. Broiled Haddock, Salmon, and Rainbow Trout appear alongside a Fried Seafood Platter, Fish & Chips, and Shrimp Scampi.

The most important thing to know about the Olympian Diner is that they do not accept credit cards, so make sure you have some cash in your wallet when you go.
