Braintree 15-Year-Old Babe Ruth beat Intertown Saturday 10-0 to land a spot in the Eastern Massachusetts State Championship Sunday at 1 p.m. at World Series Park in Saugus.

If Braintree wins Sunday. they will go on to the regional tournament to be held in Newtown, CT.

"Bill Roche pitched his second shut out in the tournament, picking the corners of the plate he mowed down batter after batter," Coach Carl Zingarelli said in an email. "With some great defensive plays, two plays comes to mind, one was a fly ball deep to center field, with one out and runners on 2nd & 3rd, Steven Whalen caught the ball fired it home to Sean Casey. Casey tagged out the runner from 3rd with a tremendous tag.

"Roche made a great play on a hard hit ball back through the pitchers mound by placing his glove hand behind his back, scooping the ball and firing the ball to first base, ending the game.

"Steven DiMartino made some terrific plays at first, along with a huge day at the plate with a single and two doubles.

"Every player on this Braintree squad chipped in whether at the plate or in the field. We would like to say thanks to Intertown for its great play and sportsmanship. It's too bad there has to be a winner and loser."
