Braintree Coronavirus: First Death Reported
Braintree officials reported the first death in town from the new coronavirus.

BRAINTREE, MA — Town officials reported a Braintree resident has died after contracting the new coronavirus. No details about the resident were released in Mayor Charles Kokoros' statement Wednesday night.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, as well as to all who are suffering from the effects of this pandemic," Kokoros said.
Local health officials also reported 22 new cases of COVID-19 in Braintree. As of Wednesday evening, 168 residents have contracted the virus.

The Massachusetts Department of Health reported 1,588 new cases and 77 deaths Wednesday from the new coronavirus, bringing the statewide totals to nearly 17,000 cases and 433 deaths. In Norfolk County, there were 1,778 cases.
