BRAINTREE, MA — Expect discussion at the upcoming Town Council meeting to be dominated by the recent fire at Clean Harbors.

Braintree officials released the agenda for the council's upcoming Feb. 28 meeting, and on that itinerary is communication from Council President Meredith Boericke regarding Clean Harbors.

Public comment will be allowed during that portion of the meeting, leaving space for residents, many of whom have voiced frustration regarding how news of the fire was communicated and possible health concerns, to try and get some answers from town officials.

Preliminary findings from an investigation point to materials inside several trailers which caught fire as a possible cause.

Officials said the fire was limited to these trailers and that, inside of them, Clean Harbors stored a mixture of paints, epoxy, oil filters, solvents and similar waste materials.

During the fire, residents of the area were asked to close their windows and stay in their homes.

Many took to Facebook to express concern over how this information was relayed, saying that the town needed to take greater steps to share than information other than posting the message to social media.

Clean Harbors and the state Hazmat team and Coast Guard conducted air monitoring at the facility and the surrounding neighborhoods during the fire and again on Friday morning. They've confirmed that the air quality was within "normal parameters," officials said.

Cultural Council

In addition to the Clean Harbors portion of the meeting, the council is set to address re-appointments to Braintree's Local Cultural Council.

Among those up for re-appointment at the meeting are H. Emily Ego, Jennifer Lynn and Anne Stuart.
