BRAINTREE, MA — Town Councilors David Ringius and Sean Powers are hosting a community meeting at the Thayer Public Library at 6 p.m. Wednesday to give residents an opportunity to provide input on proposed zoning changes in town. Other issues including development, housing, parking, traffic, and South Braintree Square are also scheduled to be discussed.

Braintree hasn't updated its zoning plan since the 1970s, so town officials developed a proposal for a new 160-page zoning ordinance to foster new business and developments in town. But the plan was put on halt after hundreds of residents protested at a Planning Board meeting on March 25 over fears the new zoning plan would allow for overcrowded housing developments and harm the small town character of Braintree.

The Town Council responded by voting unanimously for a resolution to update the town's master plan before rewriting Braintree's zoning ordinance. Along with this week's public hearing, another planning board meeting to discuss zoning was scheduled for 7 p.m. April 22 at Braintree High School.
