Woman, 94, Dies In Head-On Braintree Crash

The driver of the other vehicle and her child were taken to the hospital, but both are expected to survive.

BRAINTREE, MA — A 94-year-old woman died in a head-on crash on Washington Street Friday morning, officials said. A child and another person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Norfolk County DA's Office said Catherine Aveni of Holbrook was driving her Toyota Camry northbound on Washington when it veered into the southbound lane and crashed into a Cadillac STS. Aveni, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital.

The driver of the Cadillac and her child were rescued from the crash and transported to South Shore Hospital. They have since been transferred to Boston facilities for further treatment.

Authorities do not know what caused Aveni's vehicle to veer off. Officers found no indication of intoxication, the DA's Office said.

The crash is being investigated.
