Braintree Election 2021: Candidates Night Approaching

Come see Braintree candidates make their cases to residents, including those in contested town council and school committee races.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree town election is less than a month away, but before voters head to the polls, they'll have an opportunity to see where the candidates stand.

At 7 p.m., Thursday, the North Braintree Civics Association will host Candidates Night at Braintree Town Hall.

All candidates will be introduced, but the night will focus on contested races for school committee and Town Council. Those candidates will join their opponents on stage for a question and answer session.

Town Council contested races are in districts 1, 2 and 3. Among those candidates are two former town councilors vying to get a seat again. Former Councilor Thomas Bowes will run District 3 against Elizabeth Maglio, while former Councilor John Mullaney will run against Joseph Reynolds and Carol-ann Ricardo in District 2. In District 1, Councilor Julia Flaherty faces Jodi Killeffer.

With the school committee race, Cyril Chafe, Jennifer Dolan and George Kokoros all said they won't seek re-election. Seven candidates are on the ballot to fill the seats. They include: former school committee member Lisa Fiske-Heger, Kathleen Tuffy, Treacy Lewald, Stephanie Burrell, Linda Doucette, Matthew Lynch and Thomas Thackeray.

The school committee term is for four years, and town council seats are for two years.
