Braintree Elections 2019: 19 Candidates Pick Up Nomination Papers

Turnover is expected in the Braintree town election, since there's going to be open races in at least four of the nine Town Council seats.

BRAINTREE, MA — The first day to pick up nomination papers for Braintree town elections has passed, and so far, 19 candidates took the first step in running for office. Eleven of those candidates announced they're running for Town Council. Turnover is expected this November, since there's going to be open races in at least four of the council's nine seats.

District 1 Town Councilor Charles Kokoros and District 3 Town Councilor Thomas Bowes are not seeking re-election because they are running for mayor, along with School Committee Chair Lisa Fiske Heger and Light Commissioner Thomas Reynolds.

At-large Town Councilor Sean Powers also announced he isn't running again. After a brief campaign for mayor, Powers dropped out of the race to focus on his new role as chief operating officer at the state's Division of Professional Licensure. District 5 Town Councilor David Ringius announced he's running for one of the at-large councilor seats instead.

As of Wednesday, here's who's taken out nomination papers for Braintree's town election on Nov. 5. All town council seats are two-year terms, while all other positions have four-year terms The asterisks indicate incumbents:

The deadline for mayor candidates to pick up nomination papers has already passed. For all other positions, the deadline is 5 p.m., Sept. 13.
