Braintree Electric Improving Internet Speed For Residents
Faster internet is coming to Braintree, according to the town's public utility department.
BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD), the town's public utility service, announced plans to upgrade its internet service. The improvement will allow residents to have download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (GBPS), ten times faster than the 100 megbits per second BELD currently offers as its fastest plan. The improvements are expected to come later this summer according to BELD general manager Bill Bottiggi.
According to Bottiggi, the 1 GBPS service will better accommodate customers using streaming services lie Netflix, playing online games, and storing files on cloud services.
"With gig service BELD Broadband will continue to remain competitive, offering our customers what they need in their homes and offices ...," Bottiggi said. "Faster download speeds will allow us to maintain our high network reliability while keeping rates affordable for Braintree residents and businesses."
