Braintree Health Department Shares Mosquito Safety Tips
The Braintree Health Department provided tips to protect yourself from West Nile virus and Eastern equine encephalitis.
BRAINTREE, MA — Throughout most of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic has been the priority for local health departments. But the Braintree Health Department has also reminded residents they should take steps to protect themselves from West Nile virus and Eastern equine encephalitis.
Both diseases, which spread to humans through mosquitos, are rare, but both are serious, potentially fatal and can affect people of all ages.
In 2020, there has been one human case of Eastern equine encephalitis in Massachusetts. The case came out of Plymouth County. Health officials are hoping to avoid the numbers 2019 saw, where 12 people contracted the virus, and six died.
