Braintree HS Headmaster Takes Interim Assistant Superintendent Job

One of the housemasters will become the interim headmaster.

BRAINTREE, MA — It turns out that Superintendent Frank Hackett only needed to take a trip to Braintree High School to find the school district’s interim assistant superintendent.

The school committee voted Monday to approve Hackett’s choice of high school Headmaster Jim Lee for the one-year position. The appointment came after five people were interviewed for the position, but none were considered to be a good fit.

“We made the decision to not bring any names forwards. To me it came down to fit and personalities,” Hackett said. “It’s also the assistant superintendent, you need to have someone who has a broad breadth of experience and someone you can have the confidence to turn to.”

Lee has been with Braintree since 2013. He previously worked in the Manchester Essex Regional School District.

“I’m excited about the opportunity. I’ve enjoyed my time in Braintree and if I can serve in a different way, I am pleased to do so and gain some professional growth,” Lee said.

The move created an opening at headmaster, which will be filled by housemaster Andrew Delery, who has been in his position since 2009.

“I’ve been fortunate to work under two strong headmasters who I have learned a ton from. On a personal level, I absolutely love my role as housemaster. I’m going to miss that but I am excited to try something new,” Delery said.

Like Lee, Delery’s new position is a one-year term.

The assistant superintendent opening was created when Jennifer Fay-Beers stepped down from the position to become the district's director of personnel and student services. She starts her new job July 1.
