Braintree has been named as one of the top ten best cities in Massachusetts by the real estate blog Movoto, which researches cities all over the country using a variety of desirable factors.
Movoto took into account the education, crime, cost of living and amenities for the Bay State's top 75 most populous cities and weighed the factors accordingly. Since Braintree has a high median income and a great history of historical figures that were born here, it ranked high.
"The final place on our top 10 goes to Braintree—and it doesn’t take a genius to see why. Braintree ranked well with a high median household income of $81,146—that’s about $15,000 more than the typical Massachusetts home. It was also one of the earliest established towns in Massachusetts, founded in 1640," said Movoto writer Natalie Grigson.
"Braintree certainly does have a rich history, coincidentally filled with some of our nation’s brightest. Braintree was the home of John Hancock, John Quincy Adams, John Adams, and Thomas Watson. In more recent years, Braintree has given us the actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and, most importantly, William Rosenberg, the brainchild behind Dunkin Donuts," Grigson wrote.
Boston's higher crime and lower education scores helped it place 28th on the list, despite having more amenities than most of its suburbs combined.
