Kid's Clothes Closet Closes In Braintree Closes

The Kid's Clothes Closet was at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church for 10 years, selling clothes to needy families for as little as $2 per bag.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Kid's Clothes Closet, which sold low-cost clothing to South Shore families in need, has reportedly closed after losing the space it used to use in a Braintree church. According to the Patriot Ledger, which first reported this story, the organization was forced to leave the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Washington Street after the church wanted the Kid's Clothes Closet to pay to install a fire resistant partition in the church hall. The organization was at Emmanuel for the past 10 years and became known for selling clothing for as little as $2 per shopping bag.

Sunny Shaw, founder and director of the group, told the Patriot Ledger the program was recently relocated from the stage area to the church hall. Shaw said the church wanted her to pay to install the partition so that the church could continue to use and rent the hall. This would have cost the Kid's Clothes Closet thousands of dollar, according to Shaw.

In a letter to the organization the church vestry praised the program and said they regret not being able to come to an agreement. The vestry said they hope the program can continue at another location.
