"The first lunar new year celebration was a great turn out. It was beyond what I expected for turn out and thanks for everyone’s support and patience," said Justine Huang, who organized the event.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree's first Lunar New Year Celebration garnered big crowds, even bigger than event organizers and town officials expected.

The festival was scheduled for the first time on Sunday at Town Hall, and, quickly, it became evident that the event would be well attended. So much so that town officials put out a statement on Facebook stating that there would be a wait to enter the celebration.

The line and wait didn't dampen any spirits, however.

"Seeing kids enjoyed these performances , and crafts activities were the best reward."

Huang also said that they'd already learned that, ahead of the 2024 event, they should look into a bigger space.

She also gave back to local organizations as part of the New Year tradition.

According to Braintree officials, Huang presented a donation to Elder Affairs and to the Marge Crispin Center "as a show of respect to elders which is a new year tradition."
