Braintree Man Who Used Tumblr To Post Child Porn Sentenced

Michael Martin will serve five years in prison and was also ordered to pay restitution to one of the victims.

BRAINTREE, MA — A Braintree man who used the social media platform Tumblr to share child pornography was recently sentenced to prison.

Michael Martin, 44, was sentenced on Nov. 15 by U.S. District Judge Richard G. Stearns to five years in prison and five years of supervised release.

Martin was also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution to one of the victims, a $5,000 special assessment under the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act and a $10,000 special assessment under the Amy, Vicky and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act, officials said.

Martin pleaded guilty on Aug. 14 to one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography.

On March 9, 2021, the social media platform Tumblr reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Tumblr user – later identified as Martin – had suspected child pornography on their account.

A search of Martin’s Braintree residence resulted in the seizure of various electronic devices storing child pornography, officials said. Additionally, a search of his Tumblr account determined that Martin has posted and received child pornography over the social media site.
