Braintree Municipal Golf Course Adding Simulators

You'll be able to do some virtual golfing during the winter.

BRAINTREE, MA — Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you can't golf in Braintree, even if it's by virtual means.

The town council approved the use of $166,000 for the purchase of two golf simulators to be placed at the Braintree Municipal Golf Course. Described as state of the art, the simulators will allow golfers to hit a few balls during the off-months between October and April.

Joseph Reynolds, the mayor's chief of staff, said the simulators provide opportunities for leagues, lessons, clinics, and other sports simulations.

The simulators will be placed in the clubhouse, which recently doubled in size.

Daryn Brown, the town’s director of golf, said this was something the course has been looking at since 2012. The clubhouse addition was built with ceilings high enough to fit the simulators.

"It will allow us to keep life in the clubhouse. It's a ghost town during the winter," he said.

In other town council news, a second public hearing for the Thayer Sports Center, was tabled to a future meeting.
