Braintree Officials Reject Hancock Street Condo Project
A proposal to build a a four-story condominium complex on Hancock Street in South Braintree Square was denied by the appeals board.

BRAINTREE, MA — A proposal to build a a four-story condominium complex on Hancock Street in South Braintree Square was denied by a unanimous vote from the appeals board. Arista Development, of Norwood, wanted to put the building with 35 two-bedroom apartments across from Braintree Lumber.
Carl Johnson, an attorney representing attorney representing Arista, told the board Monday the company was willing to reduce the number of units to 29 and make the complex only for resident 55 and over, according to the Patriot Ledger, which first reported this story. Johnson said the developer would need a decision that night though because Arista's option on the property was about to expire.
Board Chairman Stephen Karll said he appreciated the changes the developer had proposed, but those changes couldn't be approved without another public hearing. Board member Richar McDonough said he had too many questions to approve the proposal the same night these changes were proposed. Michael Ford, another board member, said the building is too large.
