Braintree Police Arrest Three on Drug Charges

Police arrested a Braintree man and two Rhode Island men on drug charges after observing what they believed to be a drug delivery taking place at a home on Nelson Street.

Stephen Small, 39; Braylin Tavarez-Sarante, 19, of Providence, R.I.; and Jose A. Abreu, 20, of Cranston, R.I.; were charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act. Tavarez-Sarante and Abreu were additionally charged with distribution of heroin according to Braintree Police Chief Russ Jenkins.

On Oct. 8, drug unit detectives, armed with a search warrant for the Nelson Street home, were watching the house and observed the two Rhode Island men pull their Toyota Camry into the driveway of Small’s home.

Detectives observed one of the occupants of the Toyota, believed to be Abreu, exit the vehicle and enter the basement of Small’s home. Moments later, the man exited the home, returned to the Toyota and both men drove off.

Braintree drug unit detectives, assisted by detectives from Quincy and Randolph stopped the Toyota on Argyle Road and confronted the two men.

A quantity of heroin was recovered, along with a sum of money and both Tavarez-Sarante and Abreu were placed under arrest. After detectives returned to Small’s home and served the search warrant, a quantity of heroin and two digital scales were discovered.
