BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree police identified the man they said started an hours-long stand-off with officers after barricading himself inside an apartment while armed with a BB gun.

Kameron Thompson, 24, of Braintree, was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and threats to commit a crime (murder).

Police said the stand-off happened just before 9:30 a.m., on the third floor of a residential building on Holbrook Avenue with 21 separated bedrooms and shared kitchens and bathrooms. Police said someone called and said Thompson pointed a gun at another resident's head and threatened to shoot them.

Officers told Thompson they were outside his door, but police said when they made their presence known, they were met with the "sound of the racking slide" of a gun. Thompson told officers, "Come at me," according to Braintree police.

Police called in more officers, with less-than-lethal weapons and ballistic shields, as they tried to negotiate with Thompson. Thompson never responded, police said.

Police evacuated the other residents of the building, as a SWAT team was called in. Police said the SWAT team tried apprehending Thompson, who came out of his room and pointed his gun at the officers.

The SWAT team used non-lethal weapons to get Thompson to drop his gun, according to police. He wrestled with officers for around six minutes before being taken into custody, police said.

Police said they examined Thompson's weapon and learned it was a BB gun. Except for the lower back strap of the BB gun, police said it was indistinguishable from a real Walther P99 handgun.

A large swath of South Braintree Square was closed while police dealed with the stand-off.
