Braintree Police Warn of Phone Scammers Posing As Officers

Police said the scammer has a long ,southern drawl, and says the victim needs to pay money to clear up some warrants.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree police warned residents to be on the lookout for phone scammers posing as local police officers.

Police said there have been two recent victims of the scams. Both reported receiving calls from a Braintree police officer, and one of the victims was scammed out of money, police said. The other called Braintree police first to verify.

Police said the scammer has a long ,southern drawl, and says the victim needs to pay money to clear up some warrants.

"This is the second time we've had a scam like this," Braintree police said in a statement. "Please be vigilant when receiving unsolicited calls looking for money, no matter how legitimate they appear to be."
