Braintree Recreation Announces Fall Activities For 2023
A block party, the town's first annual Autumn Festival and a number of Halloween activities are all on the docket. Here's what to know.

BRAINTREE, MA — Mayor Charles C. Kokoros and the Braintree Recreation department have announced the schedule of activities to be held during the autumn of 2023.
The season kicks off with a autumn festival held in partnership with with Chinese American Association of Braintree (CAAB) on Sunday, September 10th from 3pm-7pm at French’s Common next to Braintree Town Hall. The afternoon will include music, performances, a marketplace, games, and food. Admission is free. In the event of rain the festival will be held on Saturday, September 30th.

Braintree Recreation will be offering a basketball pre-season skills clinic at the Daughraty Gym on Tuesdays starting September 12th until October 17th. There will be two sessions for students in grades K-2, one from 3:30pm-4:10pm and 4:10pm-4:50pm. There will also be a session for students in grades 3-6 from 4:50pm-5:30pm. On Sunday, October 15th from noon-3pm the Mayor will be hosting a block party at Watson Park. Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and there will be free games and entertainment..

In partnership with the Braintree Department of Elder Affairs the recreation department will be holding a trivia contest for seniors at Elder Affairs building at 71 Cleveland Ave on Friday, September 22nd at 11am. A light lunch will be provided at the end of the contest. To sign-up for this event please contact the Department of Elder Affairs at 781-848-1963.
New for this school year we are excited to announce “Half Day Fun Days” on Tuesday, September 26th and Wednesday, October 25th. The bus will leave the Braintree Recreation offices at 74 Pond Street at 1pm and return around 5pm (traffic permitting). September’s trip will be to Ryan Family amusements in Hanover which will include bowling and arcade games. October’s trip will be a tour of Fenway Park. To sign-up log onto www.braintreerec.com.
In partnership with the Braintree Municipal Golf Course the Mayor and recreation department will be hosting a Halloween movie night at the golf course (101 Jefferson Street) on Friday, October 20th at 7pm. This year’s spooky movie will be “The Nightmare before Christmas.” This is a free event and concessions will be available for purchase at the golf course’s Links Café. The rain date for this event is Friday, October 27th. There is no need to register for this program.
On Saturday, October 28th the recreation department will be hosting a “Monster Mash Dance Party” at Braintree Town Hall. Cost is $10 and includes pizza along with water or soda. Ages are grades 3-5 from 6pm-7:30pm and grades 6-8 from 8pm-9:30pm. All participants are encouraged to come in costume as there will be costume contests and Halloween themed games. On Tuesday, November 7th the recreation department will be hosting a trip to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum for students in grades 3-8. Cost is $15 and includes round trip bus transportation from the recreation offices at 74 Pond Street. The bus will leave Braintree at 9:15am and return around 2pm (traffic permitting). The trip includes a stop for lunch at Sullivan’s Castle Island. The cost of lunch is not included so please make sure participants are given spending money. To sign-up log onto www.braintreerec.com.
