Braintree Resident is Awarded 4-Year Scholarship to Regis College

On May 25, Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton graduated 166 students in the high school's auditorium. This year, 92.8% of the senior class will be attending four-year colleges. This is the highest four-year college enrollment rate seen in the school's recent history. Spellman reports that 99.4% of the graduates will be continuing their education next year, with one student enlisting in the United States Air Force.

The senior class was recognized for their academic achievements and were presented with medals, certificates, and special scholarships. Thirty-eight monetary scholarships were awarded by outside organizations in support of Cardinal Spellman High School students. Cassandra Barry, of Braintree, was among these scholarship recipients.

Barry was the recipient of the Regis College Presidential Catholic Scholarship. This award is a four-year full tuition scholarship for residential students. Recipients are chosen for academic achievement, leadership ability, and dedication to community service. The scholarship is worth in excess of $170,000. Barry was also the recipient of the President's Award for Outstanding Educational Achievement.

Other recipients were Jonathan Harris and Jimmy Lysko, both of Bridgewater. Harris was the recipient of the Boston University Cardinal Medeiros Scholarship. Harris, Spellman's 2017 Valedictorian, will receive a four-year full tuition scholarship worth over $210,000 for his undergraduate degree from Boston University.

Jimmy Lysko will be attending Villanova University in Pennsylvania on a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship. Lysko will receive full tuition, book stipend, educational fees and financial benefits. Upon graduation, midshipmen are commissioned as officers in the unrestricted line of the Naval Reserve or Marine Corp Reserve. Lysko's four-year full tuition scholarship is worth over $180,000.
