BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree's upcoming local election slate got a little lighter recently, as one of four school committee candidates has decided to drop out.

Christopher Peters shared a message explaining his decision, stating that family and work demands were too great to add a committee responsibility to his schedule.

Peters' name will still appear on the ballot due to the timing of this decision, but he said he would decline the seat if he were to be elected.

The ripple effects of this decision will be felt most by the other three candidates, who will now sleep easier on the days leading up to the election. There were only three seats up for grabs in the election meaning that, effectively, the race is now uncontested.

"I am officially withdrawing from the race of Braintree School Committee. After many talks with my family, I have decided, due to my demands at home and at work, I will be unable to fill a seat on the committee to the best of my ability at this current time.
Although I will still be on the ballot. I will decline a seat if elected.
I want to thank all who helped me get on the ballot at the last minute.
I wish the other candidates the best of luck moving forward, and hope they serve the interest of the parents/students of the community to the best of their abilities."
