Braintree School Committee Could Appoint New Superintendent Tuesday

A school committee meeting has been posted for July 19 to address the appointment of a new superintendent.

Braintree could have a new superintendent this week.

On Tuesday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m., the school committee will meet at the Colbert School. The only item listed on the posted agenda is the appointment of a superintendent of schools.

On June 30, the school committee voted to enter contract negotiations with Pembroke Superintendent Dr. Frank Hackett. After the meeting, Braintree School Committee Chairman David Ringius said another meeting to finalize the committee’s decision to go ahead with Hackett would occur around mid-July.

If Hackett agrees to become the head of the Braintree Public Schools, he will succeed Maureen Murray, who worked her last day as superintendent on June 30, entering retirement after two years at the helm.

Currently, former superintendent Peter Kurzberg is serving as the interim superintendent.
