Braintree School Committee Explores Combining Feb., April Breaks

The Braintree School Committee plans to send out a parent survey to gauge interest in a proposal that could end the school year a week early

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree School Committee plans to survey parents on whether to combine February and April vacations into a single week in March, the Patriot Ledger reports.

At the committee’s Monday meeting, members gave a preliminary look at a potentially controversial idea committee member Jennifer Aborn Dolan said that a resident suggested. Cutting off a week of school vacation would mean that the school year could end a week earlier.

Dolan said she is aware that the move could arouse controversy, which is why she said she wants to send out a survey.

If such a change were made, it would not go into effect until at least the 2023-24 school year, according to the Patriot Ledger. The 2022-23 calendar is expected to be approved at the committee’s next meeting on Dec. 6.
