Braintree Shooting: Officer Shot at Motel 6 Recovering, Suspect Dead

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree police officer shot in the face Friday night at a Motel 6 is in "good condition" and expected to survive, authorities said. The suspect who shot him was found dead in a room when police entered following a long standoff.

Donald Delaney, 36, was expected to undergo surgery Saturday, Braintree Police Chief Paul J. Shastany. He was shot after what started as a warrant check at the Motel 6 on Union Street around 9:30 p.m. (Subscribe to Braintree Patch for more local news.)

Police say they were there for Tizaya Jordan Robinson, who they found dead with multiple gunshot wounds, including a self-inflicted one.

Officers from several police departments, state police, ATF Boston, and a regional SWAT team responded to the scene where Robinson barricaded himself inside a room, police said. MBTA service to the nearby Braintree station was stopped and motel guests were evacuated.

Braintree Police thanked everyone for the outpouring of support for Delaney.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan noted that the motel has been known for past issues, calling the situation "frustrating."

"We need to do a better job. There has been some history at the site and working with them I think we've taken some steps to upgrade the facility, but this is obviously a step back and we need to do something that is going to be more significant and hopefully more positive moving forward," Sullivan said.
