Braintree Sports Complex Construction Starting In Spring

Switching contractors delayed construction, according to Mayor Joseph Sullivan, but he believes there may be potential cost savings.

BRAINTREE, MA — Construction of the high school's new athletic complex, which was originally pegged to start in the fall, is expected to begin in the spring, Mayor Joseph Sullivan announced.

The project originally broke ground in October, but there has been little onsite activity since, the Patriot Ledger reported.

Sullivan in his newsletter "Braintree Blue," said the project switched contractors. Timberline Construction, the new contractor, came closer to what developer BSC LLC thought was reasonable for construction pricing. The project developer parted ways with Shawmut Construction, the original contractor last December, the Patriot Ledger reported. Timberline Construction is expected to review potential savings cost for the project sometime within the next eight weeks Sullivan said. The new complex, which will include a 75-meter pool and two regulation-sized ice rinks has an estimated cost of $20 million.
