Braintree Students Beat State Average In Next Gen MCAS
Braintree students who took the next generation MCAS haven't missed a beat in the transition, according to the results.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree students who took the next generation MCAS haven’t missed a beat in the transition, according to the results.
Interim Director of Technology and Accountability Rebecca Kidwell told the school committee while most kids took the next generation test, they are still doing well.
“In an overall look at our scores, we are outpacing the state on the next generation test to the same degree that we were on the legacy MCAS,” Kidwell said.

Students in grades 3-8 took the next generation test for math and English while 10th grade students took the legacy MCAS. All students took the legacy test for science.
Below are some selected statistics shared by Kidwell. A more in-depth report is expected in November.

10th Grade
- In biology, 95 percent of students scored advanced or proficient.
- In English, 95 percent of students scored advanced or proficient.
- In math, 92 percent of students scored advanced or proficient, 13 percentage points above the state rate.
Eighth Grade
- The percent of students meeting/exceeding expectations on the English exam is 18 points above the state rate.
- The percent of South Middle School students meeting/exceeding expectations on the math exam is 18 points above the state rate.
- Percent of East Middle School students scoring advanced or proficient on the science exam is 20 points above the state rate.
Elementary Schools
- The percent of Flaherty Elementary students meeting/exceeding Expectations in English exam is 22 points above the state rate.
- Seventy-one percent of third grade students at Highlands Elementary are meeting/exceeding the new, higher English expectations.
- Hollis Elementary fourth graders scored exceeding expectations on the English exam at triple the state percentage.
- Fifty-nine percent of fifth grade students at Liberty Elementary scored advanced on the science test
- The percent of third grade students at Morrison Elementary meeting/exceeding expectations on the math exam is 18 points above the state rate.
- No third or fourth grade students at Ross Elementary scored in the not meeting expectations category on the math test.
