Braintree Town Council Give Roads to Quirk Enterprises

The council voted to discontinue Cliff Road and Lancaster Road.

Two roads near the Braintree shipyard will be discontinued and given to Quirk Enterprises for redevelopment.

On Tuesday, the Braintree Town Council voted to discontinue Cliff and Lancaster Roads, handing the responsibility of the roads to Quirk.

The move gives control of the area to the car dealership, who is the only abutter on the two roads. Both roadways do not provide public access and only go to properties to Quirk Enterprises.

“This part of Braintree has needed a lot of work. It was a blight in the neighborhood and just the fact we’ve been able to clean it up, I want to say thanks to Mr. Quirk. You have to think hard when you’re going to discontinue a road but I think in this case it’s the right thing so we can improve the town of Braintree and see a new state of the art facility,” Councilor Charles Ryan said at last Tuesday’s meeting.

The new dealership is expected to be a $5-10 million development, which would bring in revenue and construction and retail jobs to the town.

The only business affected by the move will be a business owned by Julius Digaetano on Columbia Terrace. At the meeting, it was announced that Quirk will pay to widen the road, which connects to both Cliff Road and Lancaster Road, and provide a turnaround at the end of the terrace for vehicles to use and turn around.

When Digaetano’s attorney was asked by the council if he was satisfied with the agreement, he said he was.

Last year, Quirk purchased the land which currently contain gravel lots.
