Braintree Trying To Keep Holbrook Garbage Trucks Off South Street
Braintree officials requested an alternative route to keep noise, pollution, and traffic way from South Street's residential neighborhoods.
BRAINTREE, MA — Town officials met with the Holbrook Board of Selectmen Wednesday to request they keep trash trucks away from South Street. Holbrook is proposing a new transfer station on Union Street, and Braintree's Town Council are asking a ban of garbage truck be part of the permit for the new station.
Town Councilor Tim Carey and traffic engineer David Soares requested an alternative route to keep noise, pollution, and traffic way from South Street's residential neighborhoods, the Patriot Ledger reported. A playground and CATS Academy are also on South Street. South Street becomes Central Street when you cross the town line into Holbrook, which is primarily a commercial area.
The alternate plan asked the trucks to take Route 37 to Route 139 when going to and from the transfer station. Holbrook officials argue the trucks will pass more houses with this alternative and that prohibiting certain trucks from driving on South Street would be unenforceable.
