BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree will employ summer counselors at four local playgrounds for the summer of 2023, Mayor Charles Kokoros announced this week.

"It is great to continue this tradition which I was able to participate in as a child, as did my two sons," said Kokoros.

"Summers on the Braintree playgrounds create memories for our young people that will last a lifetime. I invite all families in Braintree to embrace this wonderful opportunity for their children to build friendships and explore new interests."

There will be no playground program on July 3 or 4.

The playground program is a drop-in program and no registration is necessary, officials said.

There will be no playground program at the Highlands School this year due to planned work on the school building including a new roof and other substantial improvements, Braintree officials said.

"While we understand that this location is always among the most popular of our playground program, the safety of our participants and staff always comes before any other consideration," officials said, in a news release.

The closest program to Highlands will be the Dyer Hill Playground.

Officials said they anticipate Highlands to be staffed again as early as next summer.
