Braintree's Summer Concert Series Renamed In Honor Of Nelson Chin

Nelson Chin served as recreation director and spent countless hours volunteering with Braintree Youth Soccer before his death in 2020.

BRAINTREE, MA — Mayor Charles Kokoros renamed Braintree's Sunset Lake Summer Concert Series in honor of Nelson Chin, the town's former recreation director, who died in 2o20 due to complications with COVID-19.

The concerts, which are sponsored by the Braintree Electric Light Department, will now officially be called the Nelson Chin Summer Concert Series.

Chin, 66, served as recreation director for several years and spent countless hours volunteering with Braintree Youth Soccer.

"I feel it is more than appropriate to rename the summer concerts in Nelson’s honor,"Kokoros said in a statement. "He never missed a concert and could always be seen with the biggest smile on his face while he listened to the music and spent time talking with residents. I would like to thank BELD Board Member Jim Regan for proposing this wonderful idea."

The concert series held at Sunset Lake runs from July to August and host bands and performers from across the state.

"I am honored to join in the naming of the summer concert series in memory of Nelson Chin," said BELD Board Member Jim Regan. "I believe in doing so that we enshrine his love of our community and its traditions."
