BRAINTREE, MA — District 5 Town Councilor David Ringius announced he's running for Councilor-At-Large in the November town election. Ringius has represented District 5 since 2017, but will now run for the seat tasked with representing the entire town. Ringius is a life-long Braintree resident and lives with his two daughters, who attend Braintree High School and Hollis Elementary.

Since serving on the council, Ringuis has served in various leadership roles, including vice-chairman of the Committee on Ordinance and Rules, chairman on the Public Safety Committee, and chairman on the Committee on Education and Library. Ringius hopes to continue with that leadership by listening to residents and being their voice.

"Braintree is a great town, built upon a tradition of pride in our history," Ringius said in a statement. "Our community is strong and vibrant, but we, like every city or town, have issues we must address if we are to continue to flourish. This will require strong leadership and direction, but also someone with the ability to listen to residents and be a voice for our community."

Ringius highlighted his accomplishments on Town Council, including helping pass an ordinance protecting historical buildings from demolition. He has also been vocal against any rezoning proposal he believes doesn't take into account residents' fears of overcrowded housing developments and ruining Braintree's small-town, neighborhood feel.

"It is incumbent upon our local officials to ensure residents have a seat at the table in such proposed changes," Ringius said in a letter to the editor. "No vote can take place that does not take these views into consideration."

Before Ringius's time on the Town Council, he served on the school committee for 10 years. In his free time, Ringius volunteers in the community by coaching in various youth sport leagues. He's coached softball, soccer, and basketball.

Ringius said he will be branching out through Braintree in the near future and hopes to talk to as many resident as as he can.

"I look forward to meeting people across town in the months to come, to continue the listening tour I have been engaged in, and to hear the thoughts and concerns that exist in the neighborhoods of Braintree," Ringius said.
