Drive-In Movie Pop Up Opening At Marshfield Fair Grounds

The South Shore will get another temporary drive-in movie theater for some entertainment amid the coronavirus pandemic.

MARSHFIELD, MA — Drive-in movie theaters were part of phase one of reopening the Massachusetts economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The only drive-ins left in the state are in Mendon and Wellfleet, but a temporary one opened at Patriot Place in Foxborough, and now another is opening in Marshfield at the fair grounds.

The Marshfield Fair was canceled, but the organizers got approval from the Board of Selectmen to set up a temporary theater at the fair grounds, WATD 95.9 reported.

"We're trying to put up a drive-in movie for the townspeople, so we can give some sort of outlet for them, some place for them to go," Lenny Laforest, the President of the Marshfield Agricultural Society, told WATD. "It seems to be springing up quite a bit across the state as well as the country."

The grounds have room for 500 cars, but it will start out at a maximum capacity of 250 to ensure social distancing. Town officials plan to have the drive-in open June 18.
