East Middle School Renovation Tabbed at $69 Million

Mayor Joseph Sullivan said he expects Braintree to receive $39 million in funding from the state.

BRAINTREE, MA — Preliminary figures from the East Middle School project has the proposed renovation of the school pushing $69 million.

Monday night, Mayor Joseph Sullivan told the school committee that the estimation comes following a meeting with project manager Hill and Associates. Using the state’s funding formula and making assumptions for a reimbursement, Sullivan said he expects Braintree to receive $39 million in funding from the Mass. School Building Authority, meaning that the town would cover the remaining $30 million.

“I think given this number of $69 million, that’s more than a dollar for dollar match and bodes well for us as a community,” Sullivan said.
