Fire Truck Named In Honor Of Late Braintree Chief Kenneth McHugh

Mayor Charles C. Kokoros has announced the naming of the new Braintree Fire Department E-One Typhoon Low Hosebed Pumper Truck in honor of late Braintree Fire Chief Kenneth McHugh. The new fire truck will replace a truck that was originally purchased in 1998 and has experienced significant wear and tear over the years due to age and usage.

Chief McHugh served in the Braintree Fire Department for four decades and, prior to his retirement, assumed the role of Fire Chief during a time of transition in Braintree’s government from 2007 to 2009.

During his career as a firefighter, Chief McHugh was awarded the Braintree Fire Department’s 1983 Firefighter of the Year Award and the 1999 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Firefighter Service Award. He sadly passed away in July of 2011 at the age of 60.

“Chief Kenneth McHugh’s commitment to the Town of Braintree, the Braintree Fire Department and the United States of America as a Vietnam War Veteran makes him the most deserving of this recognition,” said Mayor Kokoros. “It was an honor to be a part of his appointment as Interim Chief when I served on the Board of Selectman and it is my distinct pleasure to ensure his legacy lives on forever in the Town of Braintree.”

The town was able to expedite the delivery of the fire truck, which was originally scheduled for delivery in 2023. The fire truck was purchased with funding authorized as part of the FY22 Capital Plan.
